Seriously, statement necklace lovers your eyes do not deceive you! Take a moment to enjoy the diversion from wearable neckwear to the oversized strand of pearls (a.k.a statement necklace) on the façade of this hotel in the arty Songshan district of Taipei.
The Philippe Starck designed S Hotel in Taipei, built and opened in 2017 as a grand romantic gesture by Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei which he dedicated to and named after his wife, Taiwanese actress Barbie “Big S” Hsu.
When it comes to grand romantic gestures, it’s hard to top creating a new hotel and then dedicating it to your wife. “Yes, the hotel is dedicated to my wife. Many of its design details are related to her, with Starck giving me a lot of ideas that I could put in place to honour her including the pearl necklace in the restaurant and on the exterior of the hotel itself. So it could be said that I didn’t give my wife a string of pearls—I gave her a building that is wearing a string of pearls!” said Wang Xiaofei.
